Hobby 2 - Gardening

Hobby 2 - GardeningBesides cross-stitching, I love gardening very much. Maybe I pick this up from my mother and father. They really have the 'green fingers'. I remember when I was young, since I was in primary school, I love to help my mother with her 'pokok bunga' which were planted around our house. Early in the morning, I will help her to water the plants, sometimes help her weeding and trimming some of the plants. I was so proud at that early age, she trusted me to design my own arrangement of plants and flowers... after sometimes if I felt 'boring' with one arrangement, I will start to move the pots around and change the layout. And sometimes I just do that to compete with my neighbors ... hahaha... at that young age, dah mula 'tunjuk belang' nak compete rumah siapa yang paling cantik. FYI, my father was a warder, so we lived in a quarters in Kamunting, Taiping, Perak. The quarters was situated at the foot of a hill, and every morning when I woke up and open the window, a gush of mist will touch my cheek and a smell of very refreshing morning dew..... hurm...I closed my eyes and took a deeeeeeeepppp breath...(at that time it was in the 70's, not so much development and lots of greens.... the air smells soooo fresh....

Our house is at the end a barrack, so there was an extra land besides our house... my father managed to make a spacious 'kebun sayur' with different kind of vegetables. You named it.. kacang panjang, sawi, bendi (lady's finger), lada merah, terung.... etc.... and I really remember sometimes when there were so many of it, we just gave away some to our neighbors. One year during Ramadhan month, I even tried to sell the vege at the barracks... hahaha... I will yell at the top of my voice, "Kacang panjang, bendi, lada.....", "makcik nak beli sayur?", "Makcik, beli lah... ni abah saya tanam sendiri...!", "makcik tak payah pergi beli kat apek tu lagi, beli kat saya aja", ....and mcm2 lagi.

And now living in a terrace house in the modern city of Shah Alam, I don't have a very big land of my own . Just in front of my house, a land size 7' X 20' , just enough to nurture my gardening hobby and my dream to create my own garden.... Welcome To My Garden!

Actually I like English or Country Gardens, full of different colors of flowers, and I like Roses. But due to Malaysia's tropical climate, it is hard to maintain an English or Country Gardens...so, I switch to tropical garden instead. I like greeneries, so there are a lot of green plants in my garden, such as Sago Palms, Spider Plants, Bamboo Palms, Peacock Plant, Bird's Nest Fern,Yucca, Dragon Tree, Rubber Plant, Bamboo Plants, Asparagus Ferns and Chinese Evergreen. In between the greens there a re also the flower plants.

Halia Bara Merah (Red Ginger)

There are Helicornia, Lily, Bougainvillea (Bunga Kertas), Water Plants, Red Ginger, Pink Ginger (Halia Bara), Money Plant, Keladi Gergasi, Tanduk Rusa, and a few scented flowers such as Kenanga, Roses, Kesidang/Kerak Nasi, Jasmine. Hurm...take a deep breath in the morning or at night I can smell the nice fragrant of the flowers...
Heliconia (Sepit Udang)

Bunga Pokok Jarum Tujuh Bilah

Kedua-dua bunga ini saya tak tahu nama dia, tapi suka tanam sebab bunganya yg kecil jika banyak kelihatan cantik berwarna ungu.

Ini juga saya tak tahu apa namanya.
(***update: baru jumpa nama pokok ini: Crown of Thorns or Christ Plant or Christ Thorns. Nama scientific: Euphorbia Milii)

Bunga Tiga Musim (Hydrangea 'Penny Mac')

Namakan saja pokok apa yang kita hendak, semuanya ada disitu... orang kata .."it's a haven for gardeners..."
I used to frequent it every month, but now no more space to put anymore plants...my heroes complaint when they know I'm going to Sg Buloh... "Ummi ... tak payah lah beli pokok bunga lagi.... dah penuh kat depan nih.... " Hahahaha... sebab apa? because they cannot play football in front of my house anymore! Otherwise kena marah ...habis semua pokok I patah-patah kena bola... Ummi said " main bola kat padang laa..., you all punya tendangan tu kalah Beckham dan Ronaldo....nasib baik cermin tingkap tak pecah, pokok bunga ummi yang habis patah...." Al-maklum lah anak2 bujang I semua peminat bola sepak no. 1.... hehehe... Anyway, sekarang dah lama tak pergi Sg Buloh, maintain yg ada kat taman ni aje....

Pink Ginger (Halia Bara Merah Jambu)
Imagine, pagi2 lepas hubby pergi kerja, I baca newspaper kat kerusi yg ada dalam taman I sambil menghirup udara pagi yang segar, sesekali bau harum bunga kenanga dan kesidang menusuk hidung dibawa angin lalu.... dan diselangi kicauan burung mencari makan di pagi hari.... ohh..nyamannya..............
